Netflix Renewal Status of Uncoupled Season 2 and What to Expect – The UBJ

The new comedy series by Neil Patrick Harris has been available on Netflix for almost a month. The actor makes a comeback to a style that helped launch his career. If you’ve already binged through Uncoupled’s 8 brief episodes and are looking for information on season 2, here is what we know.
The show is directed by Jeffrey Richman and Darren Star, the latter of whom is also responsible for Emily in Paris, another smash hit on Netflix. Prior to it, Sex and the City, Melrose Place, and Younger were some of Star’s best-known works. On July 29th, 2022, eight episodes of the comedy debuted on Netflix.
The comedy followed a man living in New York City who had to rediscover life after a long-term relationship abruptly ended.
Renewal Status of Uncoupled Season 2
Netflix has yet to officially announce whether the show will return for a second season after a month on the service. As time passes, it becomes less likely that the show will be renewed, and it will almost certainly be renewed or cancelled based on its ratings. On the review front, it received mostly positive feedback from both audiences and critics. It currently has a 77% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 74% audience rating on RT, and an IMDb rating of 7.0/10.
We’re currently split on the show’s future due to its uneven success thus far (more on this below). Given Netflix’s track record in the comedy genre, it has one of the best prospects of any of the current crop of new comedies getting renewed, but it could not have the viewership Netflix needs to support a second season.
How popular is Uncoupled on Netflix?
In the first three days of being available on the platform, the series was unable to crack the top 10 hourly charts on Netflix globally. Though it’s not technically the end of the world, this shows that it didn’t get off to a great start.
Between July 25 and July 31, Uncoupled would have needed more than 20.17 million hours of global viewing to surpass the second season of Stranger Things on the charts.
The show did go on to feature in the Netflix global top 10s for a single week between July 31st and August 7th. It accrued 26.52M hours and came in sixth place that week. The following week, when it would have needed 18.07M hours to rank, it fell out.
The show may have had a familiar beginning, but the raw top 10 statistics from FlixPatrol seems to indicate that it plummeted out of the top 10s after around 2-3 weeks. The fact that the show only spent 13–14 days in the top 10 in significant territories like the United Kingdom and the United States suggests it might not have the staying power to return for another season.
On August 3rd, four days after its debut, the show grew to become the sixth most watched show in the globe, but its popularity has since sharply fallen, according to Just one month later, it has fallen to #214, indicating that despite all the other statistics we’ve included, the show may not have the staying power to be revived.
The completion rate for Uncoupled is one encouraging sign (something we’ve previously noted as crucial for renewals). Using data from their European panels, the British SVOD analytics company Digital I claims that Uncoupled has a completion rate of about 59%. Series with a lower than average renewal rate have been mentioned in the past.
Uncoupled Season 2 on Netflix: What to Expect
We already have a very decent notion of where the show is going, should it get renewed. At the end of the season, we saw Michael leaving for home after learning that Colin had been thinking twice about the separation that had initially caused so many issues. Will Michael think about trying again with their 17-year-old relationship?
Stanley must have therapy after receiving a stage one breast cancer diagnosis elsewhere. Given that Kai abruptly left a meeting, Kai’s father continues to be a significant mystery. Additionally, they provided us with some crucial narrative lines for where season 2 may go due to an interview with TVLine. While you wait for a season 2 renewal, you may catch Neil Patrick Harris in another Netflix Original series called A Series of Unfortunate Events. Darren Star told the source “that he expected plenty of disagreement in the writers’ room over how to proceed.”
