Hope everyone is having a great week. This past weekend, the city celebrated at Merry on Main. The preliminary numbers for attendance are between 2,000 and 3,000 people Friday and between 4,000 and 5,000 people Saturday. Some new things were added this year to include: a dance on Friday night, a carnival on Saturday, and Santa and an elf arriving by helicopter Friday night. The helicopter call sign was “Santa One.”
Along with a great attendance, we had 150 trees at the River Park Wonderland. This display will be ongoing until after the new year. Please come out and see it. We also had a very successful parade. There were over 70 participants, and the parade lasted more than an hour. I hope you were able to attend and enjoy this event.
This is the 5th year we have had Merry on Main. The event continues to grow. Contact the city if you would like to participate in this wonderful event next year. I would personally like to think all the sponsors, participants, staff and volunteers. Without these individuals and organizations, this event would not be possible. The committee and volunteers continue to do an outstanding job of making this a premier event for the city. To continue the celebration, on Dec. 20 between 1 and 3 p.m., the city is hosting Cookies and Milk with Santa at the airport. Children are invited to write letters to Santa that he will take with him to the North Pole. This is a new event, and the city is excited to host it. So, come on out. As you go through the Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations, enjoy family and friends, and have a good time and stay safe. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
