Brazil made it out of its group which the nation shared with Spain, Australia and Costa Rica. In the quarterfinal round, Brazil defeated Colombia by a score of 1-0 to advance to the semifinal game. Tarciane scored the lone goal of the game. Brazil went on to play Japan, but lost in a tight 2-1 game. Miriam Cristina Cavalcante recorded the only goal for Brazil in the game, but Japan was able to outplay Brazil to advance to the final.

Unfortunately, the team was unable to make it past the strong offense of Spain and lost 2-1 to find themselves in the bronze medal match. 
This will be the first matchup between these two teams.
