CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying returns this week, with only two automatic spots remain with only a few more matches left. Two teams battling for the fourth and final qualifying spot look to get an edge on one another, as Peru battles with Colombia on Friday.
Each team comes into the meeting with 17 points through their first 14 matches. Colombia is 3-3-8 in qualifying aciton, holding the most draws among any of the countries in the final round of CONMEBOL qualifying. Peru is 5-7-2, tied with Bolivia for the second-most losses coming into the week. Colombia holds the tiebreaker, as of now, as their -1 goal differential is better than Peru’s -5.
Colombia has drawn in four of their last five matches, with a loss to top-seeded Brazil the only mark during that stretch. Their last victory came when they knocked off Chile 3-1 back in September.
Peru is looking to build off how they ended the 2021 portion of qualifying, as they won their last two matches back in November, knocking off Bolivia and Venezuela to move their way up into a qualifying position.
Colombia comes in as favorites over Peru, especially with the Colombian squad clean-sheeting Peru in qualifying action back in June 2021. Colombia is 27-19-22 against Peru, and have only been defeated once since 2012.
